Description
Develop and maintain 2G, 3G, LTE, 5G, Wimax, Wispeed, FWA, WIFI radio access network at adequate capacity, operating at optimum quality and offering competitive coverage and associated services for RAN planning team sitting in Regions. Design and long term strategic planning on Rural Telephony with evolved backhauling, Small Cells, Inbuilding, Cell extenders and all other new access technologies. Explore and establish strategy for new development area as OPEN RAN, SON, Massive MIMO, MORAN, MOCN, etc.
Missions / Responsabilités / Activités
Strategy Development
- Ensure the application of Group Business Planning strategy recommendations across Regional entities
- Drive Solution roadmap and Technologies choice
- Support translation of commercial demand into radio strategies to be adopted in near term plans.
- Consolidate Regional team inputs for access network business plan preparation
- Support development of 2G, 3G, LTE Radio Network strategies and other key technology projects.
- Ensure and maintain Regulatory compliance as per the terms defined within the License
- Ensure Vendor selection for service delivery during tender follows MTN framework guidelines
- Produce detailed and comprehensive designs for Project implementation and radio network optimization.
- Align planning with other functions through design authority and integrated network planning activities
- Suggest and track the implementation of wireless features and processes across regional entities which will result in improvement of network quality and without compromising its profitability.
- Drive capacity planning base on inputs received from Regional entities and iterate the process in other to achieve Market demand/forecast.
- Translate high level plan to low level design as well as specify detailed configuration setting of design in accordance with Regional entities.
- Achieve the most efficient cost-effective design of RF installation which will satisfy the market demand by reusing leftover materials. Consider cost of installation, market requirements and expected traffic, environmental management legislation and knowledge of the existing radio access network.
- Specify hardware/software requirements for implementation.
- Ensure drive test of site after integration is duly validated by Regional entities
- Assist in testing and approval of any new equipment to be used in the radio network.
- Ensure all new equipment introduced in the network are homologated as per regulation recommendation.
- Give guidance, assistance and high-level support to Radio Planning and Optimisation Engineers in regions on 2G,3G and LTE network optimisation and performance issues.
- Perform a good communication and co-ordination. − Communicate plans and integrate feedback.
- Co-operate with and support other departments at all levels
- Cooperate with other departments within MTN. − Monitor all competitor Network radio access strategy.
Compétences / Exigences / Qualités
Education / Business Degree:
- Master Degree in Electric/Electronic/telecommunications engineering or equivalent.
- 2G System Survey.
- 3G Capacity Planning and dimensioning.
- UMTS & LTE planning and optimization
- RAN next technologies including 5G and Open RAN.
- Antenna systems
- Achieving Performance Excellence & Line Effectiveness Management.
- Huawei/Ericsson 2G, 3G, LTE, 5G capacity planning & Optimization.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in an area of specialization.
- Experience in supervising others is an advantage.
- Experience working in a medium organization.
- Have a very good knowledge of radio network planning & optimization techniques.
- Very good knowledge of GSM radio technology.
- Understanding of wider trends in the international and local telecoms industry.
- Be computer and internet literate.
- Understand principles of software & database development.

- Need to climb masts and building is necessary on occasion – head for height – safety gear and training provided. Page 2 of 5 FM-HR-O500 Dial in facility will be required as to have access to certain databases when out in the field – mobile data modem and sim card provided.
